JAKARTA, November, 2002
The theme of study days during the annual meeting of  Catholic Bishops's Conference of Indonesia in Jakarta was "Mediated Culture". Fr. Yoseph Iswarahadi SJ and his crew from Puskat Audio Visual Studio were invited to organized a media awareness training for the bishops.

The study days was from Nov 4-6, 2002. The Puskat's session was on Nov 4 evening (The New Skin for the New Wine). Since 2 days before the Puskat crew was able to transform the whole auditorium into a television studio where there were full of modulation and vibration. During three hours, Fr. Iswarahadi SJ and Mr. Tri Mulyono facilitated the bishops to experience the meaning of audio visual language or new culture.
The bishops and also the Cardinal actively participated in this session. The artistic crews from Puskat Audio Visual Studio were Mr. Manarung, Mr. Setyohaji, and Mr. Ananto. The whole presentation and the setting were designed by Fr. Dedomao SJ from Puskat Audio Visual Studio.

In the following days the bishops continued the study days on media: Evangelizing Communication in the Light of Ecclesia in Asia (Fr. Eilers, SVD), community radio (Mr. Errol Jonathans), and cyberspace (Mrs. Sylvia Sumarlin).

KUALA LUMPUR, November, 2002
JESCOMEAO Special Assistant, Mr. Augy Loorthusamy, participated in the World
Association of Christian Communicators Asia Region (AR-WACC) Assembly in Kuala Lumpur and a subsequent seminar on Media Violence and Challenges to Modern Society.

There were around 40 participants at the WACC Asia seminar. Fr. Iswarahadi from Puskat Audio Visual Studio in Yogyakarta also attended. Randy Naylor, the Secretary General of WACC was there, and Augy briefed him on what Catholic communicators were doing in the region. Augy pointed out areas where ecumenical collaboration is advisable under their new 5 year program. The Vice President of AR-WACC is Mr. Sorono of Kanisius Publishing house, Yogyakarta.

The seminar on Media Violence and the Challenges to Modern Society was organised by the Asia/Pacific Broadcast Development group in Kuala Lumpur where a JESCOMEAO
colleague, Mr. Marcel Gomez works. It was co-sponsored by the Frederick Eibert Stiftung
from Germany, UNESCO, British Coucil and a Swiss Group. Augy was invited through
SIGNIS and the Director of AIBD in Germany.

Participants were Academics, Media Professionals (Broadcasters and Journalists),
Government Ministers, a few NGO's. AMIC was also present there. There were some 20
papers presented. Augy found the seminar very useful and made many contacts. One of
the highlights was Augy's meeting with the representative from East Timor, Mariano Jose
Lopes da Cruz, who is in charge of Media in that country. He knows Fr. Filomeno and is also the member of the Parish Council of the Bishop. He was happy to know of Jesuit
communication work in East Timor.
