Fran Hezel, SJ, Director of the Micronesian Seminar in Pohnpei announced
that their video production unit is now capable of digital editing, and
that they are producing new video programs on conservation and nutrition.
Fran and his team have produced over 30 programs for the television series
Island Topics, broadcast throughout the region. These programs cover
topics of local interest such as environmental protection, education, use
of drugs, the role of women, island history, the economy, and a wide range
of social problems faced by the Micronesian people. A list of programs

Fran has also recently completed a new book, entitled The New Shape of
Old Island Cultures—A Half Century of Social Change in Micronesia.

Jesuit Communications Foundation in Manila is distributing an attractive
pictorial monthly calendar for the year 2002, commemorating the 450th

Jerry Martinson, SJ taught religious television production to a group of
18 students from 14 countries at CREC-AVEX in Lyon, France. The 30-year
old center, run by Fr. Pierre Babin, OMI, specializes in the integration
of media and faith. It has trained many Asian Catholic communicators
over the years.
